Terra Nova is supporting an historic expedition marking the 100th anniversary of Sir Earnest Shackleton’s attempt to cross Antarctica.

The Imperial Trans Antarctic Centenary Expedition 2014 proposes to carry out ’unfinished business’ and cross the Antarctic continent in line with Shackleton’s plans. Shackleton’s expedition in 1914 was a futuristic attempt to be the first to cross Antarctica via the South Pole. In the event his boat Endurance became trapped in the ice. His proposed route has never been attempted again.
The expedition will depart for Antarctica in November 2014 and it’s expected that the 1500 mile journey will take around 85 days.
With the prospect of facing severe conditions, the team approached Terra Nova and have selected Terra Firma and Hyperspace tents and extremities gloves and socks to protect them from the elements.
He said

‘We chose Terra Nova tents and extremities because we wanted quality tents and clothing accessories with trusted pedigrees that were British. Terra Nova Equipment, with their numerous awards and track record fill this criteria. I am fully confident that the kit will perform well during the lengthy Antarctic expedition, especially after visiting Terra Nova’s premises where I met staff and saw our tents being made.’
The team has already conducted some training expeditions including one to Scotland in February and will be going to Greenland in April where they will spend 30 days traversing the Greenland icecap.
