Terra Nova Equipment has a long, respected heritage of tent-making; having produced some of the world’s best outdoor gear since 1980. The Terra Nova ‘Best in Class’ design ethos drives an ambition to use and develop some of the best components and materials available. Tried and tested in our labs and in the most extreme environments across the planet, Terra Nova’s award-winning products are considered the brand of choice for most outdoor professionals across the globe.

The brand was born out of Ben and Marion Wintringham’s deep involvement in the North Wales and South Pembroke climbing scenes, where they identified gaps in the existing equipment of the time.

the Kennel series of hoop tents were revolutionary at the time for bridging the gap between a minimal bivi bag and a full-scale tent.
The Kennel: Designed as a “super-lightweight one-man tent.” It was marketed for solo expeditions—from the Himalayas to the British hills—and weighed only 2lb 9oz (approx. 1.16 kg).
The Superkennel: A larger two-man version with a zippered porch for gear storage and cooking, weighing 5lb 4oz (approx. 2.38 kg).

A self-supporting, four-season GORE-TEX dome tent designed to provide maximum stability and headroom with a minimal ground footprint.

Then called the Sapphire, it went on to become a staple of basecamps across the world. It featured a self-supporting structure with four shock-corded alloy poles, a PU nylon fly with hot-air taped seams, and a versatile double-zipped porch at each end for storage and downwind access. Designed to sleep two comfortably (or three in an emergency), it offered a choice between a PU nylon or high-durability neoprene groundsheet, with the full kit weighing in at approximately 3.28kg to 3.52kg.
